Federal Government National Health Fellows Program 2026 For Nigerians | How To Apply

The National Health Fellows Program is implemented through the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp Coordination Office) under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The goal of the program is to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system by:

• Upgrading existing primary healthcare centres
• Constructing 8,800 new PHCs across all local government areas
• Enhancing accessibility, quality, and accountability in healthcare delivery

The fellowship recruits passionate young Nigerians to contribute to data collection, project coordination, community engagement, health sector monitoring, and innovation within the PHC revitalization agenda.

Eligibility Requirements for the 2026 National Health Fellows Program

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Age Requirement

• Must be between 25 and 35 years old

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in Health-related fields, IT, or Social Sciences

Interest / Experience

Candidates must demonstrate:

• Interest in public health, OR
• Experience working with health-related NGOs, partner organizations, or
• Participation in community projects that demonstrate initiative and leadership

Participation Requirement

• Must be available full-time for the entire 12-month fellowship

Indigene Requirement

• Must be an indigene of the state they are applying for

Technology Requirement

• Must possess a smartphone capable of WhatsApp, Zoom, and data usage

Recommendation Letter

A recommendation from one of the following:

• University Dean
• NYSC Place of Primary Assignment (PPA)
• A recognized organization demonstrating the applicant’s character and leadership
